Not every TV couple is given a fair shake.
Some are overshadowed by other romances going on during the exact same time as theirs. Others are scrutinized because of the way they got together, or because they as a pairing are in the way of another couple ending up together.
Then there are couples who weren’t underappreciated by the fans, but by the show itself.

These couples don’t deserve to be overlooked and mistreated. They are just as adorable and lovely as their mainstream counterparts.

Klaus and Cami (The Originals)
Poor Cami received so much unnecessary hate as soon as she was introduced in The Originals. Klaroline fans wanted Klaus to end up with Caroline so much that they weren’t even willing to give Cami and Klaus a chance. When Cami and Klaus started to pursue a romantic relationship, Klaroline fans lost their minds. They were so upset about this coupling that they cyberbullied Leah Pipes. The worst thing was the show actually gave in to the fans crazy demands and killed off Cami. If Klaroline fans could’ve gotten over themselves for just a few minutes, they would’ve seen that Cami and Klaus were actually great together. She brought out his sweet and soft side while he helped her find her courage. If fans gave them a chance, their ending could’ve been much happier.
Phoebe and Mike (Friends)
Between the folklore that is Ross and Rachel and Monica and Chandler, it was hard for Phoebe and Mike to compete. Despite being overshadowed by those more famous couples, Phoebe and Mike may be one of the most funloving couples in TV history. Mike embraced all of Phoebe’s weird qualities and celebrated her unconventional upbringing. He was even willing to choose her over his own family after just a few months of dating. Seeing Phoebe, someone who earned a happy ending, finally get hers, was the best present fans could ask for. Ross and Rachel’s relationship may have been the focal romance for Friends in the beginning, but Phoebe and Mike managed to be a much more endearing couple by the time the series ended.
Alex and Jessica (13 Reasons Why)
Are Alex and Jessica the perfect couple? Absolutely not, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t good for each other. Sure, Alex screwed up after their first break up by putting her name on the infamous list, but he’s apologized, she accepted and they moved on. Fans should too. They’re teenagers and teenagers make a lot of mistakes. Alex’s one mistake shouldn’t officially deem him not good enough for Jess. Besides, Hannah and Clay obviously can’t happen, and 13 Reasons Why needs a couple like Alex and Jess who have remarkable chemistry to help lighten the mood in this dark drama every once in a while.
Crosby and Jasmine (Parenthood)
Parenthood as a whole was underrated. The fact that the show was never nominated for an Emmy or Golden Globe is baffling. One of the couples that made the show so good was Crosby and Jasmine. The story of how their son who was conceived after a one night stand, but somehow brought the two of them together five years later was such a fun and compelling story. Crosby, Jasmine, and Jabar were the heart of the show. However, the family was featured less and less in the latter half of the series. Because their relationship was wrapped up in a nice little bow, they weren’t getting as much screen time as the other couples on the show. This led to a lot of fans forgetting about them by the time Parenthood wrapped. Crosby and Jasmine deserved better. Their love story is one for the ages.
Shawn and Angela (Boy Meets World)
It’s almost impossible to not be overshadowed by the legend that is Cory and Topanga. First loves who met when they were kids and are still together today … how can anyone compete with that? Shawn and Angela may not be on the same level, but they shouldn’t be disregarded. The two had undeniable chemistry, and Angela brought out a new side of BMW’s residential playboy Shawn Hunter. She helped the troubled teen learn to love and trust like he never had before. Sure, they had their troubles, and unlike Cory and Topanga, weren’t able to last after college, but they were each other’s first loves and should be celebrated.
Ravi and Peyton (iZombie)
Liv and Major may be the on again/off again relationship iZombie revolves around, but Ravi and Peyton have always been the backbone of the show. The two of them are a prime example of what real love looks like. However, a number of iZombie fans want Peyton to be with Blaine. The only problem with that coupling is the good girl and bad boy dynamic has been done to death! Besides, Blaine doesn’t deserve Peyton. Ravi treats Peyton like a queen and gives her the support she needs whenever she needs it. Blaine and Peyton may have physical chemistry, but Ravi and Peyton are the couple that everyone should be rooting for.
Dawson and Jen (Dawson’s Creek)
Dawson was so infatuated with the idea that Joey was his soulmate, that he let the one girl he actually had chemistry with, slip through his fingers. Dawson’s Creek fans have debated the who did Joey Potter belong with question to death (the correct answer will always be Pacey). While Pacey and Joey and Dawson and Joey have been talked about ad nauseam, many people forget how good of a couple Dawson and Jen were. While their first go around in Season 1 is nothing to write about, their time together in Season 5 was lovely. Dawson and Jen were both mature enough at this point to have a healthy, solid relationship. They helped each other see their potential. If the show and the fans weren’t so obsessed with the Dawson/Joey/Pacey love triangle, Dawson and Jen may have stood a chance.
Diggle and Lyla (Arrow)
This couple’s love story has been so under the radar since it first started, which is what makes it so great. Olicity maybe Arrow’s main romantic focus, but Diggle and Lyla are equally as adorable. Diggle’s affection for his wife is as clear as day. They are both willing to do whatever it takes to protect their family. Diggle was even willing to take out his best friend if it meant saving his wife and child. The best part about Diggle and Lyla is that they see each other as equals in every way. What other husband and wife duo parents their child and beats up bad guys together all in the same day. Hopefully, their bond remains unbreakable, and Arrow fans will finally give this underrated couple the recognition they deserve.
Andy and Ellie (Cougar Town)
An underrated couple, in an underrated show. Cougar Town was a gem of a show that many people didn’t give a fighting chance. Yet, its small fanbase helped carry the show for six whole seasons. While fans adored Andy and Ellie as individual characters, they never fully appreciated Andy and Ellie as a unit. Part of the reason for that was because unlike Jules and Grayson and Laurie and Travis, Ellie and Andy were already a happily married couple when the show first premiered. They didn’t have the will they/won’t they pull the other couples had. That doesn’t mean they weren’t absolutely adorable. Ellie’s twisted, dark humor was perfectly balanced out with Andy’s childlike wonderment. They were a match made in sitcom heaven. Give them more praise.
Mouch and Platt (Chicago Fire/PD)
These two have to compete with other major couples not just on one show but two. So it’s understandable why their love story is shuffled to the sidelines sometimes. However, that doesn’t mean they don’t deserve more appreciation. The biggest problem Mouch and Platt have had to face is that they each star on separate shows, which makes it difficult for them to share screen time. Despite that hurdle, Mouch and Platt have managed to produce some of the best and cutest moments in the Chicago franchise. They also deserve the title for the most stable couple in Chicago. Mouch and Platt prove that finding your true love can come at any age. Their wedding at Firehouse 51 was symbolic. They not only vowed to protect and serve Chicago but to also protect and serve each other. Now how can you not just love that?
Jake and Peyton (One Tree Hill)
Peyton may have ended up with Lucas, but her relationship with Jake Jagielski was equally, if not more epic. In fact, it could be argued that Jake was the one that got away for Ms. Sawyer. He was the perfect guy for her. Peyton constantly lamented that people always leave. Sure, Jake was forced to be one of those people, after having to leave Tree Hill with his daughter Jenny. Yet, he always came back because of how much he loved Peyton. Peyton and Jake were about ready to go all in with each other until Peyton realized she was in love with Lucas. That led to a ton of drama between her and her best friend, Brooke Davis. It’s disappointing that the remainder of Peyton’s stint in Tree Hill focused on her and Lucas when it seemed like Jake was actually the right man for her. You picked the wrong guy Peyton!
Tom and Wanda (Hart of Dixie)
It’s easy for a couple to get lost in the shuffle on a show. Especially when the two characters in the relationship are minor characters. Tom and Wanda were such a small part of Hart of Dixie, yet they managed to somehow steal the spotlight from all of the other romances everytime they were featured. As soon as Wanda was introduced to the town of Blue Bell, it was clear she was the woman Tom Long was meant to be with. She was the only person who truly appreciated his quirky charm. They didn’t need to be the focus, which is why they worked so well as a pairing. Every few episodes Tom and Wanda would have an epic romantic encounter, for example, their Islands in the Stream proposal, and then fade into the background for multiple episodes. Even the smallest of TV romances warrant some appreciation.
Alaric and Jenna (The Vampire Diaries)
This couple met its end just when it was starting to get good. The Vampire Diaries had a habit of killing off characters prematurely in its early seasons, thus not allowing relationships to fully bloom. Alaric and Jenna were the unfortunate victims of this habit. Jenna was killed off at the end of Season 2 and was rarely mentioned again. The show would go on for another six seasons, and the coupling of Alaric and Jenna became nothing more than a distant memory. That should never have been the case because Alaric and Jenna were so good together. They both had their fair share of past issues, but together they not only became better people but also fantastic parental figures for Elena and Jeremy. If Alaric and Jenna were just given more time to blossom, their romance could’ve been one for the ages.
Jason and Janet (The Good Place)
Just like The Good Place itself, Jason and Janet, are an underrated gem. Sometimes the weirdest romantic pairings turn out to be the best ones, and that is exactly the case with Jason and Janet. No other show but The Good Place could ever make a relationship between an AI-type figure and a man dumber than sticks work. Yet, somehow it not only works, but it also enhances the overall quality of this delightful sitcom. Jason is never more endearing than when he is with Janet and Janet’s struggle to embrace her feelings for Jason continues to be a fun journey to watch. While Kristen Bell and Ted Danson garner the praise of The Good Place fans, it’s the underappreciated relationship of Jason and Janet that provides the show its heart.
James and Lena (Supergirl)
Since they first got together, James and Lena’s relationship has always been quiet and subtle. Unlike Kara and Mon-El, James and Lena’s romance has never been at the forefront of an episode, so their chances to shine have been limited. Having to battle Kara and Mon-El for screen time isn’t the only obstacle in their way either. Since Lena first came onto the scene in Season 2, a number of fans have wanted to see Kara and Lena’s friendship turn into something romantic. When James and Lena got together, those fans became angry, and have written off the James and Lena pairing without giving them a fair shot. It’s a real shame because James and Lena have a ton of chemistry, and clearly make each other happy. So can’t Supergirl fans just be happy for them?
Zack and Lane (Gilmore Girls)
Not being one of the Gilmore Girls could sometimes lead to Lane’s romantic life being put on the backburner. While Gilmore Girls fans praised Luke and Lorelai and continue to debate which suitor Rory belonged with, Zack and Lane sneakily became one of the most adorable couples on TV. The two were simply bandmates in the beginning and Zack was a bit of a womanizer. The friendship quickly turned into romance when Lane realized she had a crush on him, and Zack reciprocated those feelings. From their wedding to finding out she was pregnant, Lane turned the womanizer into an upstanding, albeit slow at times, guy. The Gilmores may have gotten all the attention, but Zack and Lane are actually the couple everyone should’ve been rooting for.
Scott and Kira (Teen Wolf)
No relationship on this list has never been treated as poorly as Scott and Kira. Teen Wolf fans were skeptical of the relationship as soon as it started, mainly because they were worried Kira would get in the way of Scott and Allison reuniting. However, Kira was able to win a lot of people over with her quirky personality and zany fashion sense. Scott’s relationship with Kira managed to be so different from his relationship with Allison which is why it was so easy to embrace. Kira brought out Scott’s dorky side, which after two seasons of nonstop teen angst, was a nice change of pace. Even though fans had fully embraced Scott and Kira, the show unceremoniously wrote her out of the show and had her leave town. It was an utter slap in the face!
Schmidt and Cece (New Girl)
Who would’ve guessed that the model and the resident douchebag of New Girl would’ve become one of the best TV couples? Sometimes it takes the right woman to get a man to change his ways and Cece was that woman for Schmidt. The once cocky and over the top guy became an incredible husband and father by series end. Every New Girl fan knows that Schmidt and Cece are the heart of the show, but their romance has always been obscured by the will they/won’t they relationship of Jessica Day and Nick Miller. Schmidt and Cece’s relationship was always one step ahead of Nick and Jess, so plenty of times they were used as a guiding light for the Nick and Jess relationship. Yet, it’s important to remember that Schmidt and Cece’s love story is just as vital to the series.
Jude and Connor (The Fosters)
Jude was always overlooked and underappreciated by The Fosters. Due to his age, he was often relegated to the sidelines while the other Adams-Fosters’ drama was at the forefront. Unfortunately, that meant Jude’s relationship with Connor was never given the full recognition and appreciation it merited. Jude and Connor were a history-making couple on TV. A gay relationship between two pre-teens was unheard of before them. The two shared a ton of cute, heartwarming moments that were consistently overshadowed by Callie and Brandon’s drama. They may not have lasted, but it was beautiful to watch these kids figure out their sexuality alongside each other. When Connor moved, our hearts broke with Jude, but The Fosters was too busy worrying about Brandon and Callie to even care. Jonnor forever!
Tim and Lyla (Friday Night Lights)
The way these two got together turned a lot of FNL fans against them from the start. Sure it was wrong for Lyla and Tim to have an affair while her boyfriend and his best friend was in the hospital dealing with paralysis, but did anyone really want Jason and Lyla to end up together? That would be a huge no. They had little to no chemistry, unlike Tim and Lyla who had so much chemistry, sparks would sometimes fly from the TV. Besides, Jason moved on, had a kid and ended up with someone else. Jason was able to move past what they did to him and even encouraged Tim to go for it with Lyla when they renewed their friendship. There’s no reason for the hate that Tim and Lyla get. They’re good together and should’ve been end game, and they might’ve been had it not been for their haters.
Michael and Holly (The Office)
It’s hard for a couple to stand out when one of the best couples in TV history is on the same show. Yet, that’s what Michael and Holly had to deal with. There are very few TV couples that can measure up to Jim and Pam. While measuring up was pretty much an impossible task, Michael and Holly managed to accumulate a number of adorable romantic moments of their own. Holly was the only person who understood Michael’s corny and sometimes inappropriate jokes. Michael’s proposal to Holly encapsulated everything that made them so special together. We never got to see their wedding, but it is almost guaranteed that Michale managed to include “That’s what she said” in his vows. Jim and Pam may be The Office’s OTP, but that doesn’t mean Michael and Holly don’t deserve a little love as well.
